Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has approved the recommendation to cancel Citycell license

The telecom regulatory authority reached the BTRC file regarding the approval of the Prime Minister on the issue last week. A top BTRC official has said that the Commission will end the formalities of cancellation of license by issuing a public announcement.

And the number of mobile phone operators in the country is decreasing one more. Earlier, due to the lack of Robi-Airtel integration, an operator was reduced to 5. Now it will be 4. However, the government has the opportunity to introduce new operators in the FourG policy.

In early June, the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission recommended canceling the license of the country's oldest mobile phone operator, to the government.

Obligations to license his license as well as issue of a new license are obligatory for him as the minister of the postal and telecommunication department.

BTRC does not pay the old arrears in relation to the cancellation of Citycell's license for a long time, according to the court order, accusations of paying the spectrum and licensing fees and violation of license terms.

However, the BTRC has sent a notice showing the reasons why the license will not be canceled before recommending the cancellation of the license. But in response to the notice, they told the BTRC that the government did not give extra money to the BTRC. As a result, they will no longer give any new money to the BTRC.

Earlier, on October 20, 2016, the BTRC suspended the spectrum allocation of Citycell. However, Citycell appealed to the Supreme Court, on November 6, the Citycell's spectrum was returned. But they do not have any subscribers anymore.

Until October of the year, Citycell claimed that the total amount of taking 477 crores was owed, the BTRC claimed. However, the operator has paid 255 crore taka. The operator will be free from liabilities after paying the remaining 222 crores.

Citycell was due to pay a fine between October 2016 and March 2017. But in the mean time, the operator has not paid it.

ACC recently filed a case against Citycell for misappropriation of Tk 3.5 billion loans from AB Bank.

Citycell chairman M. Morshed Khan, his wife Nasrin Khan, Citycell's MD, CEO and AB Bank's former and current MD were accused in the case filed with Banani Police.

Citycell CEO Mehboob Chowdhury was arrested and later got bail.

Besides, the National Bank wanted to take the head office of Citycell to receive 454.45 million takes for the auction. In the capital, Mohakhali in the capital, the 6th to 13th floor of the building auctioned by the bank, the newspaper also tenders the advertisement. But later the matter was not seen before.

Of these, 13 people have sent notice to Citycell to pay the salary and allowances, and its staff has sent notice. Citycell Director Morshed Khan, Nasrin Khan, Asgar Karim, CEO Mehboob Chowdhury, CFO Tariqul Hassan, CTO Mahfuzur Rahman, a member of the provident fund trustee Nishat Ali Khan, AB Government sent these legal notices.
